How an L-bar sealer works
- A roll of centerfold film (film folded in half lengthwise) feeds over the machine. The operator or a conveyor slides the product between the two layers. The platform or conveyor is set so the seal falls at half the package height. Eastey's manual gives the example of a 6 in. package set 3 in. below the lower seal pads.
- The L-shaped seal bar comes down. It seals the open side and the trailing end and cuts the package free.
- The loose sealed bag goes through a heat source, usually a shrink tunnel. The film shrinks tight around the product.
Sealing and shrinking are separate steps. Some machines do both on one frame. Others are separate machines joined by a conveyor. Compare L-bar sealer and shrink tunnel systems.
Compare machine types
The three types differ in who closes the seal head and who moves the package. That sets the speed, the price, and how much labor each package takes.

Common questions
No. The L-bar only seals and cuts. You need a heat gun, a hooded chamber, or a shrink tunnel to shrink the film. Combo machines include both. Compare heat sources.
Centerfold shrink film, usually polyolefin. Many also run PVC. The Clamco 250C takes polyolefin up to 150 gauge and PVC up to 100 gauge. Polyethylene bundling grades may need different sealing hardware and tunnel settings. Confirm it works with the equipment maker. Folded film width is about product width + height + 2 to 4 inches. Pick one whose seal area fits your largest product with room for the film. Its height limit must clear your tallest product. Many machines top out at 6 to 8 inches tall. Pick a seal area.
Some tabletop sealers and small tunnels run on 110 to 120 V. Other models need 220 V or three-phase service. Voltage alone doesn't tell you a machine fits your outlet. Check the exact nameplate, manual, circuit, and receptacle needs. Check electrical requirements.
An L-bar sealer can't seal a package longer than its bar. A side sealer seals continuously along the side, so it handles long products. Continuous-motion side sealers run faster.
